Throughout the church year, the Altar Guild is responsible for the care and preparation of the altars, linens, priests’ vestments, brass, silver, candles and flowers. Currently we have about 12 active members. The Altar Guild operates either as a team of two, or solo members who are on duty for a month at a time. Each month’s team prepares for the Sunday services, generally setting up on Saturday morning, and cleaning up after the 8:00 and 10:00 o’clock services on Sunday. Weekday services are usually covered by Guild members who attend the service. The team also covers special feast day services, and any weddings or funerals that occur during that month, asking other members to cover or help out as needed. We realize everyone leads busy lives, so we try to be flexible and help each other as we can. New members work with experienced members to learn what to do and how to do it. We try to utilize everyone’s abilities and talents. We meet collectively twice a year, in May and November, to conduct any business and to establish the schedule for the next six months. We also meet on the Saturdays before Easter (Holy Saturday) and Christmas to polish the brass and silver. It’s great to be all together at the same time! |
