Vermont Bach will offer a concert this coming Saturday, October 20th, at 7:30PM, in the Christ Church sanctuary.  The program will feature love songs from the Elizabethan period in England.  Vermont Bach is a chamber ensemble based in Woodstock, Vermont; this concert is presented by Lisa Willems on harpsichord and organ, Daniela Tošić, mezzo-soprano, and Sarah Cantor playing recorders.  Suggested donation is $20.

Hello! My name is Nathan Rutz, I’m senior warden at St. Luke’s Episcopal in Cleveland Ohio – a small mixed income mixed race city church. I work at a small composting company in Cleveland called Rust Belt Riders.  I’m visiting Montpelier 11/4-11/10 to spend the week with the folks at Vermont Compost to learn from them, as they’re some of the best composters in the country. I don’t currently make enough money to spend time in a hotel, and I like meeting people better anyway, so I thought I’d ask my fellow Episcopalians – would anyone be willing and able to spare a room for the week? I’m happy to turn your compost piles, talk about the connections between the Resurrection and composting, contribute to household chores, etc.
blessings! Nathan Rutz 513-535-3705

For the second year, Bethany Church will be providing an overnight shelter for people in need from November 1 through April 15.  Local churches and faith communities in  Montpelier and East Montpelier have been volunteered to provide a simple evening meal and a warm space from 5 to 8 , at which time people can go to the shelter.

Christ Church has agreed to provide an evening meal and a warm space on Tuesday nights.  Meals will be simple – soup and bread, sandwiches, simple casseroles, a bag lunch.  People will  have a more ample meal available at noon at the lunches in the churches.

This could be arranged using the Meal Train, an online program that organizes meals and food distribution.  We can provide information about this.

Churches could also provide cards, games, music, magazines, conversation with guests.

Each evening meal will be attended by someone on the staff of Good Samaritan Haven, but we will need volunteers to prepare food and volunteers to be present at the meals.

The Social Justice Committee will have a meeting on Sunday, October 14, directly after the 11:00 service, to explain the program and how you can help.  For more information, or if you are not able to be at the meeting on Sunday, please call Marty Roberts at 223-5506.

Thank you!  Thanks to everyone who helped to make our “Welcome Home Sunday” such a smashing success. Many hands helped to raise and lower the tent, carry out tables and chairs, and contributed to the splendid buffet. Thanks to everyone who made the day so festive.  Special thanks goes Andy Wellman and the West Hill Sawhouse for donating their tent for the occasion.

“Hearts on Fire: Forging the Future of Christ Episcopal Church” As you know, our capital campaign has been continuing over the course of the summer. To date we have received pledges totaling over $560,000! The goal of the campaign is to fully restore our historic sanctuary which needs some serious repair. In addition to the congregational portion of the campaign, we will be asking for pledges from the community that can also be made over a three-year period. A sincere thank you to everyone who has participated in the campaign thus far. Stay tuned for an update from Helen Bryan and Sharon Winn, campaign leaders.

Welcome Back Alumni Sunday!  On Sunday, September 9, 2018 at 10:00AM, we will celebrate a festive Eucharist followed by a catered barbeque in the courtyard.  We have invited many “alumni” from our church family to come back and celebrate with us as continue celebrating our 150th anniversary in Christ Church. Former Rector, Ben Chase will be among us as will many others who have been part of the fabric of this community. Please mark your calendars and plan to join us for this special event! Please note, there will be NO 8:00AM SERVICE ON 9/9/18. Also we need a few hands to help with:

  • Setting up tables & chairs on Sunday morning prior to 9:00AM.
  • Help with setting up and emptying trash containers.
  • Contribution of one ready to serve pasta salad to serve 25 people with serving utensil.
  • Thank you and please join us for the festivities!

Tuesday Eucharist: Starting on Tuesday, September 11th at 5:30PM and continuing on Tuesday evenings into the fall, we will celebrate an informal evening Eucharist in the chapel. Please feel welcome to stop by after work for a few minutes of contemplation and reflection.  All are welcome.

Fellowship Groups: Our fall fellowship groups are starting up again this September. If you would be like to be part of a fellowship group that offers dinner, conversation, and fellowship please let us know! You can call the office or send us an email at: administrator@christhurchvt.org

Reminder:  Tomorrow, Tuesday, June 19th, 5:30 to 7:30.  Please join us for a spaghetti dinner follow by a Christ Church conversation about Who We Are.  What does inclusion for everyone look like?  Inclusion is an active process.  How do we move forward? Children are welcome.  We do not have a designated child care person, but there will be toys, puzzles, play dough and markers at the childrens’ table.   On Sunday we heard part of a sermon from Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.  You can view the entire video through this link:
